Windows 10 +  HA on VirtualBox


I’ve got HA running on an i7 miniPC with 512GB storage and 8GB RAM but I’m also running Windows 10 as the main OS, Blue Iris camera software, and HA on VirtualBox (with 2 cores and 32GB dedicated to it).

Synology

I did run HA on a Synology in a VM for quite a while. It worked fine. Having some extra memory in the Synology would be great though. HA runs fine, but it slows the other things the Synology is doing. I did put a €50 SSD (smallest and cheapest I could get) in the Synology to speed up DB operations.

I started with RPI 3B+ then RPI4 + sdCard, then RPI4 + SSD, and today running a Ryzen system with proxmox + HA VM + Multiple LXC addon.

RPI is more “dedicated” platform

As long your machine will be able to run 64bit linux then you should be ok, and better to run it on SSD which improve the performances. Installation for Debian 11 + docker should be quite easy. Oh and have cable connection for Internet access.


120GB SSD is much more then enough for HA.

Sdcard issues

I recomended to go with Debian 11 + supervised version. It should be much easier or maybe Debian 11 + docker + HA Core.
