Using Matter with Apple Home

To use a Matter accessory with the Apple Home ecosystem, users can add the accessory via the Home app, or any HomeKit-based app. Once added, Apple Home transparently supports Matter accessories in the Home app, Siri, Control Center, and in third-party HomeKit apps. And, third-party Matter ecosystem apps can also easily request users’ permission to access these accessories using the Matter Support Framework, helping promote interoperability across ecosystems.

Apps that don’t implement their own Matter ecosystem can use the HomeKit API to control Matter accessories in addition to HAP accessories. A HomeKit entitlement is sufficient to access all accessories the user added to Apple Home, without having to explicitly re-pair accessories.

Examples of Thread Borders routers are the Apple TV 4K, HomePod (gen 2 or Mini), and the Google Nest Hub V2


To use Thread devices you will need a Thread Network with at least one Thread Border Router in your network nearby the Thread device(s). Apple users need for example the Apple TV 4K or the HomePod Mini, while Google users need a Nest Hub V2. Use the Thread integration in Home Assistant to diagnose your Thread network(s).
