UNzip it using 7Zip

Launch VMware Workstation 17 Player

Home Assistant Operating system

Download the HA OS aarch64 qcow2 image and extract

Install the Home Assistant Operating system virtual machine

Step 1: Download VM Workstation Player 17.5


Step 2: Download Home Assistant .VMDK image (haos_ova-11.1.vmdk.zip)

step 3.The file will be download as a file with a .zip extension which needs to be extracted. To extract it:

Workstation 17.5 updates support for the latest operating systems for Windows 11, Linux kernel 6.x and more.

This is how I solved it to run in VMware Workstation 17.5.

Create a New Virtual Machine
Select  I will install the operating system later.
Select use Other Linux 6.x and later kernel 64-bit.
Give your VM a name and select the folde
Store it as a single file, and set your storage size to 32GB
Set memory to at least 2GB
Set that Processors are set to at least 2
Set the network adapter needs to “bridged” mode.
Remove both New CD/DVD (IDE)
Finish to create your Virtual Machine


Delete the ha.vmdk file
rename the haos _ova- 10.0.vmdk to ha.vmdk
firmware="efi"
Edit VM Settings  --> the ha.vmdk file
Start the Virtual Machine

On the summary page, enter a name and select open VM settings

Change the networking to bridge mode

Select the VirtIO drive and de

Using VMware Workstation Player 17.5 you can use these steps:

Step 2: Download Home Assistant .VMDK image

Download the Vmware Workstation (.vmdk) image from here.https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/windows

Extract the file, and place it into a directory where your VM will live (C:\Home Assistant)

Click Create a New Virtual Machine

Click I will install the operating system later.

Select Linux. For the version, you would use Other Linux 6.x and later kernel 64-bit.

Can’t boot hassos? (x86_64  VM paly 17)

VMDK is not Windows OS based installation. You should configure machine as Linux 6.x and later kernel 64-bit.

I’d also advise to increase the size of HDD to 32GB, otherwise it might get quite quickly filled with logs or DB.
